Roger Waun, is currently serving as Pastor of First Presbyterian Churches in Childress, and in Quanah, TX. He also served for 3 years as Pastor of Miller United Methodist Church in N. Versailles, PA. An active minister dedicated to the Social Gospel, Roger is involved with the Washington, D.C.- based Sojourners and Call for Renewal Organizations.
He and his wife Vicki live in Wichita Falls, TX. He has served his community as an active member of the Wichita County Democratic Association, a charity fund-raiser, an advocate for the under-privileged, a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Night Supervisor of a homeless shelter, and as the volunteer State Legislative Director for a veteran’s organization. A devoted family man, he and his wife Vicki have 5 adult children and 14 grandchildren.
He is qualified for Congress by virtue of his education, military and community service, and his business management experience. Prior to his current Church Pastorates, he was a Wichita Falls businessman with over 15 years business management, marketing, consulting, and training & development experience. For the past 10 years in Texas he has owned and operated a regional wholesale distributorship business with his wife Vicki, who is an Executive Director with the Tupperware Corporation. Together, they have helped over 120 area women establish successful home-based businesses.
Roger holds a B.Sci. degree in Political Science, as well as a Master of Arts from Eastern Michigan University and advanced graduate studies in Communication at the University of Pittsburgh, and he later attended Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He worked his way through college as a musician with the group \"Up With People\", and on the stage crew for the “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood” TV show at station W-QED in Pittsburgh, where he worked for Fred Rogers, an ordained Presbyterian Minister who also attended Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
A former High School Speech Teacher, with 12 years university teaching and debate coach experience at Penn State University and the University of Pittsburgh in his background, Roger identifies with the needs of public education. Later, Roger also served as Manager of Training & Development at Missouri State University, where he designed and managed on-site customized training projects for managers in business, industry and government.
A graduate of Army R.O.T.C., he served for 16 years in the US Army Reserves as a Strategic Intelligence Officer. He held a Top Secret security clearance with active duty tours at NSA, the Defense Intelligence Agency and at Hdqrs. of the US Army’s Recruiting Command. He has been an active member of the American Legion for over 30 years.
His avocations include public speaking, and as an amateur musician as the drummer for the Mad Medics, a popular non-profit Wichita Falls dixieland band that has raised over $100,000 for local churches and charities while also funding scholarships for the Music Majors at Midwestern State University.
