37 million Americans live in poverty.  47 million Americans have no health insurance.  Our economy is slipping into recession.  People are losing their homes to foreclosure.  We\'re borrowing $720 million per day -- $12 billion per month, to finance a war against a country that never attacked us.  Gas prices at the pump are over $3.15 per gallon.  Independent truckers are going out of business and prices at the grocery are increasing at a rate too fast for household budgets to adjust.  CEO\'s are making over 400 times what the average worker in their companies make.

Trickle-down economics is making the rich richer, the poor poorer, and squeezing those of us in the middle.

Folks, let\'s face it, its time for a change in direction!

  • Jan 01, 08 - 5:00 PM' @ Why Roger Waun is Running

Roger Waun believes it is time for a change of direction in the U.S. House of Representatives.  Progress in solving many of our nation\'s most critical problems has been too slow coming.  Our economy is now in danger of slipping into recession, while billions of our hard earned tax dollars are being wasted on propping-up a corrupt and ineffective government in Iraq that has failed to make political progress while showing itself incapable of compromise amongst its own warring factions.  Roger believes that the war in Iraq has diverted our attention away from the broader goal of defeating world-wide terrorism, and that our nation is not becoming any safer as the result of the billions of dollars we are wasting there.  Repeated attempts by our Congress to correct this situation have been rebuffed by a stubborn President and his allies in Congress who have voted to obstruct the will of the American people who want to see this nation get back on track by solving critical domestic issues like health care, energy, education, immigration and the pending crises in Social Security and Medicare solvency.

Roger is therefore dedicating himself to the cause of creating a House of Representatives that is responsive to the will of the American people, while working to end the partisan grid-lock that has plagued our Congress.

When it comes to priorities in the battle between basic human needs vs. corporate greed, Roger believes that PEOPLE MATTER MORE!  That\'s why he\'s running.  Roger will be a voice for the voiceless and a tireless advocate for the "Little Guy", rather than a mouthpiece for corporate special interests and the overly-partisan Party bosses who promote legislative grid-lock.  He\'ll be a Congressman who will listen to his constituents while tackling the difficult problems faced by the average American working family rather than being an advocate for the wealthy few, as has been the case with our current entrenched 7-term Congressman.

    Roger stands for the following:

    • Re-Grow our Middle Class while reducing the gap between the super-rich and the rest of America, so that we won\'t become the first generation whose children will be worse off than ourselves.  RESTORE THE AMERICAN DREAM!
    • Getting out of the costly religious civil war in Iraq, while safely bringing our troops home and restoring our nation\'s respect abroad.
    • Keeping promises to our Veterans by improving their long-term health care and providing improved access to services for those suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
    • Making Social Security solvent, not risky, and protecting worker pensions  Roger supports the Social Security Lock-Box legislation.
    • Providing affordable health care coverage to all Americans
    • Stop borrowing, eliminate the deficits with Pay-As-You-Go budgeting, while paying down our national debt
    • Reign-in Corporate Lobbyists and close the Corporate Tax Loopholes that amount to welfare for already profitable corporations
    • Recind the Bush tax cuts benefiting the top 2% of incomes (Multi-Millionaires and Billionaires) and ensure the progressive nature of our tax code so that we can narrow the gap between the super-rich and the Middle Class.  "From those who have more, more will be expected"
    • Make higher education and trade schools affordable and accessible for all qualified students
    • Develop sources of renewable energy including wind, solar, bio-mass, and fuel cell technologies, while reducing our dependence on imported oil and reducing greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming.
    • Provide leadership to create green collar jobs throughout the 13th Congressional District, taking full advantage of the potential of Wind Power to help our rural Counties while bringing manufacturing jobs to our cities.  Value MAIN STREET over WALL STREET.
    • Help our struggling rural communities and support our family-run farms and ranches rather than the big Agri-business Corporations.
    • Restore funding for Community Block Grants which help support our local social service and non-profit organizations
    • Protect our borders--enforce our laws, and employ American citizens and pay them a living wage, not illegal immigrants who overwhelm our social services and who undercut wages and then send those wages home as a drain on our economy
    • Export goods, NOT good jobs, and restore our balance of trade
    • Insist on FAIR TRADE agreements that protect workers and environmental concerns, rather than emphasising profits for multi-national corporations that are responsible for exporting jobs while importing goods based upon cheap, exploited foreign labor.
    • Institute public financing of campaigns in order to end the un-due influence of corporations and the wealthy few over our entrenched policitians who are more beholden to lobbyists and Party bosses than to the will of the people!
